Like all superstars, Connie Chan left a trail of images in her wake. She appeared prolifically in newspapers and magazines; in the posters, flyers, and lobby cards promoting her films; and in the photographs and photocards collected by her fans. The sheer volume of these images is a testament to her enormous popularity.

Astounding too is her multiplicity: from the male roles of Chinese opera that she trained in as a child and her subsequent fame as a teenager playing martial-arts heroes and heroines
to her contemporary roles in romances, musicals, comedies, and action movies. She even played dual roles of the opposite sex in a couple of films, simultaneously displaying both her feminine and masculine charm.

Modern yet traditional, independent yet filial, Connie Chan was a perfect idol for the generation of aspiring young women growing up in the rapidly changing Hong Kong of the 1960s.
